Thermo King has developed an innovative solution and exceptional passenger comfort for e-buses equipped with Athenia heat pump systems. Thermo King’s new sensor optimizes the fresh air ventilation rate and increases the air flow by actively monitoring and controlling the CO₂ levels inside the bus. The sensor helps maintain the right balance between the ventilation rate and energy consumption of the HVAC unit, while also positively impacting the driving range of the electric bus.

The right balance

Thermo King HVAC systems are designed to optimise energy consumption and hence to extend the vehicle’s operating range. This can result in a reduction of fresh air entering the passenger area. By introducing a CO₂ sensor, we can now monitor and control CO₂ levels and fresh air exchange. We do this by precisely controlling the amount of fresh air entering the vehicle so as to balance comfort and energy consumption.
